Deworming is necessary among all species to prevent the entry of helminths to grow in the body. Some worms are not beneficial or harmful. However, they consume food ingested by animals and interfere with the growth of animals.

Rabbits are also susceptible to helminths and show signs of the presence of helminths in the intestine(especially) or body. 

Some important signs are shown by a rabbit is 

  1. falling of fur by easily rubbing a hand on the body coat
  2. Slow down the growth rate of bunny
  3. Changing behavior 
  4. Diarrhea

Common antihelminthic are also useful for deworming in rabbit

1. Albendazole

Dosage:- 10mg/kg, PO, repeat after 14 days

Indication- Trichostrongylus spp.

2. Fenbendazole

Dosage:- 10-20mg/kg, PO, repeat after 14 days

Indication- Passalurus ambiguous, Nematodirus leporis, Obeliscoides Cuniculi, Graphidium strigosum, Trichostrongylus spp.

3. Ivermectin

Dosage:- 0.4mg/kg, PO/SC, repeat after 14 days

Indication- Nematodirus leporis, Graphidium strigosumTrichostrongylus spp., Dermatoxis veligera, 

Ivermectin is not sufficiently active against pinworm Passalurus spp.

4. Mebendazole

Dosage:- 10-20mg/kg, PO, Only once is enough

Indication- Passalurus ambiguous

5. Oxibendazole

Dosage:- 15mg/kg, PO, repeat after 14 days

Indication- Passalurus ambiguous

6. Piperazine Adipate

Dosage:- 500mg/kg, PO, q24h for 2 day

Indication- Passalurus ambiguous,  Dermatoxis veligera

7. Piperazine citrate

Dosage:- 200mg/kg, PO, repeat after 14 days

Indication- Passalurus ambiguous,  Dermatoxis veligera

8. Praziquantel

Dosage:- 5-10mg/kg, PO/SC/IM, repeat after 14 days

Indiaction- Taenia piriformis, Taenia serialis, Mosgovvoyia pectinata

9. Pyrantel pamoate

Dosage:- 5-10mg/kg, PO/SC/IM, repeat after 14 days

Indication- Passalurus ambiguous
